College of Fisheries Science

Under the aegis of DUVASU, the State Govt. of Uttar Pradesh has sanctioned faculty and staff positions for the College of Fisheries Science and it has been established recently in the rich green and vast new campus of the University. The college is offering a 4 Year Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) professional degree as per the Vth Dean Committee report from academic year 2024- 2025 with an objective to impart quality education in the field of fisheries science, undertake research in fisheries, and generate competent human resource in Uttar Pradesh. The University has recruited faculties for various departments related to fisheries science to run the undergraduate program. The College is equipped with the necessary facilities for teaching and research. Availability of good laboratory facilities and experienced faculty of College of Fisheries Science is an added advantage.

The college has seven departments:

  1. Department of Aquaculture (AQC)
  2. Fisheries Resource Management (FRM)
  3. Department of Aquatic Animal Health Management (AAH)
  4. Department of Aquatic Environment Management (AEM)
  5. Department of Fish Processing Technology (FPT)
  6. Department of Fish Engineering (FEG)
  7. Department of Fisheries Extension Economics & Statistics (FES)

The students in the first batch (2024-25) of the college have been admitted. The college is housed in a beautiful double story building and has five grow-out fish ponds, one nursery pond and one hatchery unit.

About Dean

Born in district Rampur, U.P. on 10 June, 1969; Graduated (BFSc) from College of Fisheries, G.B. P.U.A &.T., Pantnagar, 1992; MFSc and PhD from ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai in 1994 and Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar (Uttarakhand) in 2005, respectively. He has about 30 years professional experience in Fisheries Science including extension, teaching, research and administration. His professional pursuit started with extension and field work in Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He taught at UG and PG level at College of Fisheries, Pantnagar and contributed for research in the field of Fisheries & Aquaculture as Senior Scientist and Principal Scientist in ICAR system. He has guided and mentored many master’s students, as well as Ph.D. scholars in the discipline of Fisheries and Aquaculture. He has administrative exposure as Officer-in-charge, Experimental Fish Centre (regional research station), Assistant Director, Instructional Fish Farm, College of Fisheries, Pantnagar, Sectional head/HoD, Aquaculture & FRM division, In-charge Project monitoring & evaluation cell, member secretary IRC/RAC/QRT, Vigilance Officer, Nodal Officer, SCSP programme and In-charge Extension cell at ICAR-DCFR. He has handled 13 institutional and 12 externally funded research projects including 3 national consultancies. मत्स्य विज्ञान महाविद्यालय में आनुवंशिक रूप से विकसित मत्स्य बीज का संचय
उत्तर प्रदेश पंडित दीनदयाल उपाध्याय पशुचिकित्सा विज्ञान विश्वविद्यालय एवं गौ अनुसन्धान संस्थान मथुरा के मत्स्य विज्ञान महाविद्यालय में गुरुवार दिनांक 01/05/2025 को सम्मानित अतिथि डॉ विनोद कुमार, निदेशक शोध, डॉ. नित्यानंद पांडे, अधिष्ठाता मत्स्य विज्ञान महाविद्यालय, डॉ. लक्ष्मी प्रसाद, प्रोफेसर एवं हेड जल जीव पालन विभाग के मार्गदर्शन में, जल जीव पालन विभाग द्वारा, आनुवंशिक रूप से संशोधित वैरायटी जयंती रोहू, अमूर कार्प और अमृत कतला के 30,000 मत्स्य बीजों का संचय महाविद्यालय के तालाबों में डॉ. परमवीर सिंह, मत्स्य प्रक्षेत्र प्रबंधक एवं सहायक आचार्य (जल जीव पालन) के नेतृत्व में किया गया।
उल्लेखनीय है कि जयंती रोहू और अमृत कतला, मछली प्रजातियों की आनुवंशिक रूप से उन्नत किस्में है, जिसे केन्द्रीय मीठाजल जलकृषि संस्थान, भुवनेश्वर उड़ीसा के वैज्ञानिकों द्वारा विकसित किया गया है, को पहली बार मत्स्य विज्ञान महाविद्यालय, दुवासु, मथुरा में प्रजातियों के विविधीकरण को बढ़ावा देने और संभावित रूप से मछली उत्पादन बढ़ाने के लिए संचित किया गया है, जिससे छात्रों एवं स्थानीय किसानों को लाभ होगा। मत्स्य बीज संचय के समय डॉ मुक्ता सिंह, डॉ साक्षी मौर्या डॉ अम्ब्रीश सिंह सहायक आचार्य, समस्त महाविद्यालय स्टाफ एवं छात्र छात्राएं उपस्थित रहे।

The stocking of Jayanti Rohu and Amrit Catla seeds at College of Fisheries Science, DUVASU, Mathura on 26/04/2025, by the Department of Aquaculture, under the guidance and supported of Dr. Laxmi Prasad, Professor & HOD (Aquaculture) and Dean COFS, Dr. Nityanand Pandey, led by Dr. Paramveer Singh, Assistant Professor (Aquaculture) marks a significant advancement in aquaculture. Notably, both Jayanti Rohu, a superior strain of Rohu (Labeo rohita) developed by CIFA, and Amrit Catla, also developed by CIFA are being introduced in College of fisheries science, DUVASU, Mathura first time for promoting species diversification and potentially increasing fish production, thereby benefiting local farmers.

WORLD FISHERIES DAY celebration organized by College of Fisheries Science, DUVASU Mathura on 21st November, 2024. Program started by a welcome address given by Dean COFS, DUVASU Mathura, Dr. Nityanand Pandey, welcoming our Chief Guest Honourable Vice Chancellor, DUVASU Mathura, Prof (Dr.) A. K. Srivastava; Registrar, DUVASU Mathura, Dr. A. K. Madan; Dean COVS&AH, Dr. Vikas Pathak; Director Para Vet. Institute, Dr. Sarvajeet Yadav; Dean CODS, Dr. Rashmi Singh and other esteemed dignitaries with a fish bowl along with prize distribution to students for various events (Slogan Writing, Poster making, Rangoli and Debate competitions) at NAHEP building, DUVASU Mathura.
