With the establishment of Veterinary College in 1947, College Library was started in a small hall of the main building. There after shifted to the present three storeyed building in 1984. After establishment of University in 2001, College Library was upgraded to University Library. The University Library is providing quality services to the students, teachers & research scholars, supporting teaching research and extension programmes of the university.

Location: At present, the library is functioning in a total floor space of 300 sq. M. in the basement, ground floor, first floor, and second floor of the Library building. The Book Section, Book Bank, The Journal-cum-Back volume Section, CD-ROM Database Unit, Digitization Unit, and Reprography, thesis binding equisetic, and reprography are functioning in basement. Books, references and automation digitization unit, office are functioning in the Grand floor. Current journal, progress report, recent literature, News letter ect, CD-ROM, internet are functioning in first floor of the building. Conference hall/ Counseling hall are   functioning in 2nd floor.

Working hours: The library is open on weekdays from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. (Monday to Saturday) and from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Sundays and Holidays. 

Collection: University Library has a highly specialized collection of 30,000.00 (Thirty thousands) documents in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Animal  Husbandry, Poultry Science, and other allied subjects. The collection includes Books, Theses, Periodicals, Standards, Reprints, Maps, Toposheets, Globes, Microfilms, Microfiches, Records, and Tapes & CD-ROMs. The collection grows at an average rate of 500 Volumes per year. 

(i) Books: The library has a collection of over 25,000 books. Of these, more than 12,000 books are kept as reference books. Around 400 to 500 basic to advanced books are added every year for the users of the library.

(ii) Journals

  • Current Periodicals: Journals are the medium of scientific communication because of its up-to-datedness. The library subscribes around 16 foreign journals and 20 Indian journals every year.

  • Back Volumes: The old journals are hardbound and kept as Back Volumes for reference. So far, the library has built up over 22,090 back volumes of journals.

  • e-Journals: In the electronic age, information-seeking process has become so much easier and quicker by e-journals and digital library. Many more journals will be brought under on-line access in the near future. 

iii) CD-ROM Databases: The library has CD-ROMs for the users to retrieve necessary scientific data. The Library subscribes to Current Contents: Veterinary Science & Animal Science database to extend effective information retrieval services to users.

Library automation: Circulation activities of the library had been partially using “Library Management Software” developed for University library. Necessary equipment for automation of the library viz., computers, printer, scanner, barcode label printer, barcode readers etc., has been procured funds. The various resources available in the library have been networked by local area network of the library.

Digitization of theses: The Ph.D. theses available in the library have been scanned and saved in ‘PDF’ and ‘word’ format. These digitized theses will be available in CD-ROMs. So far, 1500 Ph.D. and MVSc theses abstract/ summary have been digitized.

Book Bank Scheme: In this scheme SC/ST students are given prescribed textbooks free of charge for a semester. 

Reprography: Photocopying Service is available to users @ Rs. 0.50 per page

Overnight Issue 
Urgently required reference books are issued for overnight

CD-Rom databases (Bibliographic): Documentation Section of the University Library provides CD-ROM Database search facility .The following Databases is available in the Library 

VET CD     -          1973 –2003.
CAB CD    -          1973-2005.

Membership: Students, teachers, & other staff of the university are eligible for the membership of the University Library.
