Department of Veterinary Public
Health

The
Department
was established in the year 1988 and postgraduate programme was
introduced from the year 1993. Since then 40 students have completed
their MVSc
and 2 students, Ph.D. degree from this department. Besides UG & PG
teaching
programmes, department has mainly focused on research on brucellosis
as a
result of which, the incidence of brucellosis in organized farms of UP
has
declined to 1-2% compared to 20-30% in the past years. The department
is also
involved in research work on assessment of microbial contamination
(qualitative
and quantitative) on water and foods of animal origin viz. milk, meat,
fish and
its products. Various pathogenic organisms have been isolated like Salmonella, E.coli, B. cereus and Clostridium spp. The
important serovars
isolated of salmonella from foods are- S.
typhimurium
and gallinarum from
poultry, S. Heidelberg and S. typhimurium from fish and
S. kissi from goat.

One
research project is running on “Outreach Programme on Zoonotic
Diseases
Verocytotoxic E.coli” in
co-ordination with IVRI Izatnagar and funded by ICAR New Delhi.
