Parasitology

Department
of Veterinary Parasitology

Since
establishment of the Department in 1949 and start of postgraduate
education programme leading to award of MVSc and PhD degrees, respectively
in 1956 and 1963. Apart from teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate
students, Department has undertaken a very exhaustive survey in different
agro-climatic zones of UP to assess the incidence of parasitic
infection/infestation in different species of livestock, poultry and wild
&zoo animals has been undertaken. Apart from the routine and common
parasitic infections, 86 new species of parasites, namely - Trematodes
(8), Cestodes (2), Nematodes (18), Acanthocephala (3) and Coccidia (55)
have been discovered and described for the first time in the world. In
addition, the Department also published “Parasitic Diseases of Buffaloes
in India” in English, Pashu Prajeev Vigyan (Veterinary Protozoology) and
Pashu Keet Vigyan (Veterinary Entomology) (both in Hindi). In 1998, Dr.
Rajendra Prasad Purskaar was awarded for the book “Pashu Keet Vigyan”,
which was adjudged as one of the best technical books in Hindi in the
field of agriculture and allied sciences.

Department
is having all the facilities required for undertaking basic research and
diagnosis of parasitic diseases of animals.
