College of Bio-Technology

This college is proposed to be established with following objectives and justifications:

Objectives
  • Provide an education in the Animal Biotechnology and Pre-Veterinary Medicine that prepare students for a productive career, graduate education, or acceptance into a professional curriculum.
  • Develop centers of excellence in research programs that meet younger scientists needs and address issues of future concern and importance.
  • Transfer new knowledge and relevant information to our scientists through extension education and outreach programs.
  • To develop new and expanded programs for research, training and technology transfer.
  • To increase regional, national and international recognition of our programs.
  • To conduct both internal and external reviews of our programs on a regular basis
  • To ensure that we are achieving our department goals.
  • To clarifying  mechanisms in the fields of infectious diseases, reproductive biology underlying health and disease  of animals and humans at cellular and molecular levels and
  • To the identification of the animal genome

Justification
  • Molecular diagnostic techniques for important diseases of Livestock and poultry.
  • Development of monoclonal antibodies for specific diagnosis & characterization of pathogens
  • Development of new generation vaccines/marker vaccines for better protection and use in eradication programme.
  • Disease Surveillance/disease eradication using molecular biology tools.
  • Study of molecular mechanism of pathogenesis of important pathogens.
  • Transgenic techniques for production of chemotherapeutics experimental animal models.
  • Research on stem cell area for treatment of various diseases/genetic disorders.
  • To develop Human Resource in the field of veterinary biotechnology.

Impact
Biotechnology  will  change traditional industries such as food processing and fermentation. It will also change the development of a whole new technology for industrial production of hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals, food and energy sources and processing of waste materials.

  • Animal with good health provides essential food and fiber.
  • Healthy companion animals enrich our lives
  • Healthy wildlife adds to our quality of life and conservation of the environment
  • Scientists prevent and control diseases transmitted from animals to humans and protect food safety.
  • Comparative medical research saves lives and improves animal and human health
  • Biotechnology advances lead to better diagnostic tools and medical therapies
  • Basic research furthers our knowledge about the genetic basis of human disease
  • Basic and applied research improve the production and management of domestic and wildlife species
