Department of Anatomy

Since inception of Veterinary College in 1947 this department has been imparting knowledge to under graduate students. So far nine PhD and sixteen MVSc students have completed their degrees from this department. In addition to the very large departmental museum, there is very rich collection of histology and histochemical stained slides and all these help in effective teaching and hands on practical training to students.

The department has undertaken extensive research on histology and histochemistry of buffaloe's skin, endocrine glands, blood, male and female reproductive system, mammary gland, teat, thymus, placenta etc.

The dpartment has carried out embryological, histological and histochemical study on male genital system, urinary system, ovary, correlative anatomy of testes and accessory sex glands and effect of vasoligation and castration on male genital organs of Goat.

Histological and histochemical studies on respiratory and urinary systems of fowl are some other major contributions of this department.

Detailed anatomical and histological work on placenta, testes, poll gland of Camel has also been carried out at departemnt.

First Indian PhD in Veterinary Anatomy, Dr. U.B. Singh completed his PhD in this Department in 1970. Department had organized organized first Summer Institute of one month duration in Anatomy in the year 1972 and there after three days conference of IAVA in 1991.

The Department has prepared and compiled following manuals and lecture notes for different courses Anatomy for students.

Manuals

  1. Laboratory Manual of Osteology, Arthrology & Biomechanics (VAN - 111) NEW
  2. Laboratory Manual of Myology, Angiology, Neurology & Aesthesiology (VAN - 121)NEW
  3. Laboratory Manual of Histology and embryology (VAN - 211)
  4. Laboratory Manual of Applied Anatomy (VAN - 221)
  5. Laboratory Manual of Splanchnology(VAN - 122)
