Prof. Satish Kumar Garg s/o Dr. Kedar Nath Gupta was born on September 15, 1958 at Barwala, District Ambala. Haryana. He has an illustrious academic career with his school education from Hindi medium Govt. schools in different remote areas of Himachal Pradesh where his father had been serving as Medical Officer in Govt. of Himachal Pradesh at that time. After completing his high school education with 75.9% marks from H.P. Board of School Education, he joined D.A.V. College, Ambala City for his Pre-Medical education. Thereafter, joined BVSc&AH degree programme in Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar in 1977 and completed the same with Honours with an OGPA of 3.58/4.00 equivalent to 78.28%. He obtained his MVSc and PhD degrees from the same University and also topped the Veterinary Faculty in PhD degree programme during 2007-08 batch wit an OGPA of 3.94/4.00 equivalent to 88.8%. During PhD degree programme, he had been the recipient of ICAR and CSIR Senior Research Fellowships.

Prof. Garg started his academic career as Assistant Professor Pharmacology from Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur on November 09, 1987. In 1990, he was awarded DDA Postdoctorate Fellowship in Germany and thereafter in 1991, Prof. Garg was awarded the Postdoctorate Commonwealth Fellowship, however, could not avail both these opportunities due to certain other career attainments. In 199,, he was selected as Associate Professor at Mathura. He rose to the position of Professor in 1999, and there after became the Head of the Department in October 2004 and entrusted the additional responsibility of Dean Postgraduate Studies in December 2008. Consequent upon his selection, he joined as the Dean of College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Mathura on June 30, 2009.

During his academic career of almost 22 years, Prof. Garg has been an outstanding teacher and as result of which “University Best Teacher Award” was bestowed upon him in 2004. He has made significant contributions in the areas of Autonomic Receptors including Ion Channels Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics of Antimicrobials in Domestic Animals including poultry, Toxicology and Medicinal Plants and published 110 research papers, made 107 presentations in different National and International Conferences, delivered more than 30 guest lectures and guided 26 MVSc students and 04 PhD students and presently, four MVSc and one PhD students are pursuing their degrees under his guidance. Several of his research papers have been cited in the International Books of Veterinary Pharmacology, Toxicology and Veterinary Medicine including that of Adams, Blood Henderson. Apart from writing several chapters for the books of Pharmacology, Toxicology, Medicine and on Camelids, Prof. Garg has also written a book of Veterinary Toxicology. In recognition of the significant research contributions, ICAR has awarded a mega research project on Indigenous Medicinal Plants to Prof. Garg worth Rs. 80 lacs.

Prof. Garg is Life Member of the Indian Pharmacological Society, Indian Society of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology and Society of Toxicology (India). He has been very active in all the activities of Professional Societies and has been the Secretary General of Society of Toxicology (India) for two consecutive terms from 1999-2003 and that of the Indian Society of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology from 2005-2009. He has got excellent organizational capacity and has organized the National Conferences, seminars, symposium and training programmes. Apart from this, he has made instrumental in establishing the Central Instrumentation Laboratory and also editing all the Publications of the University since 2001.

After taking over the reins of Veterinary College, Mathura, he has been instrumental in establishing a very close liaisoning with State Animal Husbandry Department of Govt. of UP and several activities are in process including organization of Training and Refresher Courses for the Vets of State Govt with the support from State Govt. and also VCI.
